The UW – Arboretum, which totals over 1200 acres, is located on the south end of Lake Wingra and is accessible via McCaffrey drive.
The University of Wisconsin pioneered what became know as the “re-establishment of historic landscapes.” The arboretum is the result of efforts by the University in the 1930s to restore the area to what the ecosystem of the 1800s.
There is a visitor center you can visit upon arrival to get acquainted with endless paths and walkways or to schedule a private tour. There are free walks each Sunday to help people find all the arboretum has to offer.
In addition the arboretum has wonderful areas to explore personally, draw, or exercise. All in all a great visiting spot. Also a great place to visit during the winter for hiking and cross country skiing.

Hours: The visitor center is open on weekdays from 9:30 am – 4pm and on weekends from 12:30 pm – 4 pm.
